Currently, the Motel's occupancy base consists of repeats, word of mouth, walk-ins, and more recently, Gage Hotel regulars. The website and word of mouth account for most of the exposure, as well as a general increase in awareness and interest in the Big Bend Region. Also on a significant increase is the number of stay-overs and repeats staying from 2 up to 5 nights.
The Motel's average occupancy rate
increased 77% and had a 191% increase in income between January 2001 and end of December 2005 despite the minimal advertising and exposure. We are booking reservations farther in advance for popular weekends/ holidays. The Motel is currently taking reservations exceeding one year in advance. In addition to attracting more tourists, the Motel is increasing in popularity as a location for a variety of functions, such as weddings, reunion, and birthdays.
The Motel and Restaurant current employs a staff of 13 employees, 6 part time positions, 8 full time. They consist of 3 front desk staff, 5 grounds/maintenance, 4 housekeeping, and 1 bookkeeping. Management consists of a head of each department, consisting of "Front Desk/Housekeeping Manager" and "Grounds/Maintenance", all reporting monthly to bookkeeping. This style of management keeps the motel relatively self-sufficient.
